How long is a session?
Sessions last 50 minutes. Enough time to talk things through properly, ease the pressure, and start making sense of what’s going on.
What if I don’t click with my therapist?
That’s okay. You’re free to change therapists at any time. Finding someone you trust and feel comfortable with matters.
I’ve never tried therapy before. Can I still start?
Yes. Many men using Mindbase are new to therapy. Sessions move at your pace, and there’s no expectation to have the right words straight away.
Do I have to commit to ongoing therapy?
No. There’s no minimum commitment. You book one session at a time and decide what feels right for you.
Anger & Irritability
Why do I get angry for no reason sometimes?
Anger often isn’t random. It’s usually a signal that something deeper is building inside, stress, overwhelm or bottled up frustration. Men are taught to push feelings down, but when they stay buried, they leak out in unexpected ways.
How can I stop anger ruining relationships or work?
Start by noticing the triggers early, pausing before reacting and learning coping techniques which can help. It’s not about suppressing anger; it’s about managing it before it manages you.
Is bottling up anger dangerous to my health?
Yes, it can be. Holding in anger increases stress, affects your heart, your sleep, and can lead to emotional explosions. Releasing it safely can be beneficial to your overall health.
When should I get professional help for anger issues?
If anger is frequent, intense, or damaging your life at home, work or physically, then it’s time to reach out. Talking to a therapist who gets it can teach you control without losing yourself.
Stress, Pressure & Overwhelm
Why do I feel constantly on edge and exhausted?
Stress builds up quietly, especially when you push through everything and don’t talk about it. Men often ignore the signs until it hits hard - fatigue, irritability, headaches, or snapping at people around you.
Can too much stress actually make me break down?
Yes. Ignored stress builds and can sometimes lead to emotional burnout, panic, or even depression. Ignoring it isn’t strength - addressing it is.
How can I manage the pressure without losing control?
Break it into small, actionable steps. Prioritise, set boundaries, and speak to someone who understands. It isn’t going to disappear on its own, but learning to release it safely can save your mind and body.
When should I see a therapist for stress?
If stress is constant, affecting sleep, work, or relationships, then it’s time. A professional can help you untangle the pressure before it bursts into anger, anxiety, or something worse.
Burnout & Work Pressure
Can work pressure affect my mental health?
Yes. Chronic stress and burnout can lead to anxiety, depression, irritability, and physical health issues. Ignoring won’t help but talking to someone can.
Why do I always feel on edge at work?
The weight of deadlines, expectations, and long hours builds pressure. Men often push through, pretending it’s fine, but stress doesn’t just disappear, it accumulates and will try to break you.
How can I manage work pressure before it takes over?
Set boundaries, take intentional breaks, and talk it out. Releasing the pressure with someone who understands can stop small stress from becoming a full-blown breakdown.
Am I suffering from burnout?
If you are exhausted no matter how much rest you get, dread the day before it starts, struggle to focus or get started, then it is perhaps time to speak to a therapist to prevent things from getting any worse.
Low Mood & Depression
How do I know if this is depression?
Why does depression in men often look like anger?
Can I be functioning and still depressed?
When should I talk to someone about low mood?
Anxiety
Can anxiety take over my life?
Yes. Left unchecked, it can affect sleep, focus, relationships and decision making. Pretending it’s not there won’t make it go away, it will just grow roots. Speak to someone.
How can I manage my anxiety?
Exercise, routine and breathing exercises can all help. Speaking to someone who understands can also be powerful. Naming it breaks its power. Ignoring it feeds it.
What to do if I am worried about talking about my anxiety?
Speaking up is tactical. Smart men face it head-on rather than letting it control them and so can you. You don’t need to tell everyone, our therapists are trained to guide you through the process.
Why do I feel worried all the time?
Anxiety isn’t just ‘worrying too much’. It’s when your mind and body are under constant pressure and get stuck in threat-alert mode. Your body can forget how to turn the alarm off, speak to someone and bring back the calm.
Relationships & Communication
Why do I shut down instead of talking when something’s wrong?
Because silence feels safer than saying the wrong thing. Many men were never taught how to talk about feelings, only how to cope alone. Shutting down becomes a habit, not because you don’t care, but because you don’t know where to start. One of our therapists can help guide you.
Why do arguments feel exhausting?
Often It’s not about the argument in front of you. It’s months or years of bottled-up frustration finally breaking through. The explosion is the symptom, the silence before it is the cause.
Can stress and anger quietly damage my relationship?
Yes. Unspoken pressure leaks out as irritation, distance, or withdrawal. What isn’t said doesn’t disappear, it slowly erodes trust and connection. Speak to someone who can help.
When should I get help for relationship problems?
When you feel stuck, disconnected, or like you’re losing someone important and don’t know how to stop it. Getting support early can prevent resentment from turning into permanent damage.
Addictions & Substance Misuse
How do I know if drinking, drugs or porn have become a problem?
If it’s something you rely on to switch off, cope, sleep, or escape, then it is worth paying attention to. A problem isn’t just about how often you use something, but what happens when you try to stop. We can help you get back on track.
Why do I keep going back to it even when I know it’s messing things up?
Because it works, temporarily. It takes the edge off stress, anger, numbness, or emptiness. The problem is the relief doesn’t last and the cycle tightens its grip each time. We can help you break the cycle.
Is addiction a lack of willpower?
No. It’s often about unprocessed pressure, trauma, or emotional overload. Many men don’t struggle because they are weak, they struggle because they’ve been carrying too much, alone, for too long. Speak to someone to help lighten the load.
Do I need to quit completely to get help?
Not necessarily. Therapy isn’t about forcing you to stop overnight. It’s about understanding what’s driving the behavior and helping you regain control, on your terms.
Identity, Purpose & Direction
Why do I feel lost even though I’m doing what I’m supposed to?
Because ticking boxes doesn’t equal meaning. Many men build their lives around work, responsibility, and providing. They then wake up one day wondering who they are beyond that. We can help you find meaning again.
Is it normal to feel empty after hitting goals?
Yes. Promotions, money, relationships, and status can all land, and still leave a hollow feeling. Purpose isn’t something you achieve once, it’s something you understand and choose. One of our therapists can help guide you on your journey.
What if I don’t know who I am anymore?
That feeling is more common than most men admit. Identity can erode after years of pressure, sacrifice, or putting others first. Therapy helps you strip back and reconnect with what actually matters.
Is this a midlife crisis or something deeper?
Sometimes it’s age. Sometimes it’s burnout. Often it’s a quiet signal that the life you’re living no longer fits who you’ve become. Ignoring it usually makes things louder, not better. Therapy can help sooth the noise.
ADHD, Autism & Neurodiversity
Do I need a formal diagnosis to book a session?
No, whether you have a diagnosis or simply identify as neurodivergent, you can access support.
How does therapy work for neurodivergent men?
Mindbase provides a space to talk through your experiences, reflect, and explore strategies that suit your way of thinking.
Will therapy change who I am?
No, therapy is about understanding your brain and behaviours, not changing your identity.
Can therapy help me cope with daily challenges?
Yes, we can explore approaches that make everyday life a little easier and more manageable.
